Triora has airports but no planes : we benefit from the proximity of airports but we are not under flight paths so we don't suffer from air or noise pollution

Directions: plane / rent-a-car

A. Nice Cote d'Azur Airport, France.

Leave Nice airport and follow GREEN signs for DIGNE, or GRENOBLE. After about 1 mile follow BLUE signs for MONACO, MENTON and/or GENES (French for Genoa / Genova). The French autoroute and Italian autostrade are toll routes and you will need about €8.50 in loose change (but there is usually a pay booth with staff, whom you can pay via cards or banknotes).  Stay on this road all the way into Italy. It changes name and number but is essentially the same road. Once you are in Italy follow signs to GENOVA for about 20 minutes until you see a large sign for ARMA DI TAGGIA (it also signs TRIORA), turn off at the next exit for ARMA DI TAGGIA. From this point see further directions below, 'click' here: DIRECTIONS TO TRIORA.

B. Genova (Genoa) Airport, Italia.

Leave Genova airport and follow road signs for A10 and GREEN signs for VENTIMIGLIA. Join the autostrada and stay on it for about 80 minutes until you see a large sign for ARMA DI TAGGIA. Exit at ARMA DI TAGGIA and pay a toll. From this point see further directions below, 'click' here: DIRECTIONS TO TRIORA.

Directions: by car - it's easy!

If the M1 or M6 is your only experience of motorways then think again. In twenty trips back and forth along the French motorways, to and from Italy, we have encountered no traffic jams! That's about 35,000 miles without delays!

You can drive comfortably from England to Triora. A ferry or a train via Eurotunnel (we recommend this for speed) followed by 7 hours driving through northern and middle France will bring you to Burgundy. An over-night stay here or in the neighbouring Macon region is highly recommended. An evening of French cuisine and Burgundian wines will help refresh drivers for the second day. It's a shorter drive on day two. You will be in Nice after about 5 hours and you'll see Triora by evening, just in time for a welcoming pizza or a hearty meal at our splendid Ristorante Colomba d'Oro.

Eurotunnel offer fantastic value for money trips if you own a property abroad. Their Property Owner's Club entitles you to discounted tickets (up to about 65% off standard prices!) See their website www.eurotunnel.com  for details or use this e-mail address:-  propertyownersclub@eurotunnel.com

The drive from south-east England, for example, from central London can be done in a fraction under 900 miles. From Calais it's under 850. It sounds a lot, but over two days it works out at just 7 hours a day, and you will enjoy a beautiful drive through a magnificent country.  Between two drivers a morning and an afternoon session cruising the fast, easy and generally clear French autoroutes will ensure your drive is a pleasure. The town of Beaune in Burgundy or Tournus in Macon are half-way stops between Calais and Triora. They offer lots of good value hotels, and you'll usually feast on the best of French cooking in either town.

Driving allows you to bring your own car or van crammed full of furnishings and items for your holiday home, and it saves you having to spend money renting a car at this end. Parking is free in Triora.

DIRECTIONS:

DAY 1: from CALAIS: initially follow the BLUE signs for PARIS. After about 40 miles follow BLUE signs for REIMS. At REIMS follow BLUE signs for DIJON or LYON. This will take you most of the way on day 1. You will pass through Champagne and the very beautiful medieval town of Troyes.  After DIJON follow signs for LYON. Stop in BEAUNE or TOURNUS (just before MACON).

DAY 2: from Beaune or Tournus: follow signs for LYON for about 1 hour until you see a sign for MARSEILLES. From this point follow signs for MARSEILLES (A46 / A346) not LYON (and NOT the A6). You will now be taken around this car-full city, on an hour-long ring road, the A46/A346. It rejoins the A6 south of Lyon. Follow BLUE signs for MARSEILLES for about 2½ hours until you see BLUE signs for NICE. (Allowing an extra day for a detour to the papal town of Avignon is well worthwhile.) Follow the BLUE signs for NICE, via AIX, for about 2½ hours. After NICE follow BLUE signs for MONACO, for MENTON, then BLUE signs for GENES (Genes is French for Genoa/Genova). Stay on this road into Italy. It changes name and number but is essentially the same road. Stay on the Italian motorway following signs to GENOVA for about 20 minutes until you see a large sign for ARMA DI TAGGIA (it also signs TRIORA), turn off at the next exit for ARMA DI TAGGIA.

Directions to TRIORA:

Leave the motorway carefully - it's a tight, slow bend - and follow the road downhill, towards the sea, take a right at the only mini-roundabout, and when you come to a STOP at a T-junction with a major road you are in the centre of ARMA DI TAGGIA. Turn LEFT. After 100 meters you will arrive at a large roundabout. Go STRAIGHT on. After about 100 meters take the SLIP ROAD to your right sign-posted TRIORA. You will start driving along a fast stretch of road with the river to your right. Stay on this mountain road, following signs for TRIORA. You will drive through these villages: BADALUCCO, AGAGGIO, MOLINI DI TRIORA, and you will arrive in TRIORA in about 40 minutes.
