Go by train! TGV travel has less of the hassles than airplane passengers have to endure. More leg room, more comfort. See France in style!

We recommend that guests take rental cars as these allow great freedom to explore the locale.

Alternatively, a bus from the airports takes you to local train stations, from where you will be able to catch trains to Nice Ville, then to Ventimille or Ventimiglia, where you can change trains for 'San Remo' or 'Taggia/Arma'. From those places buses or taxis can be taken to Triora.

A bus runs between San Remo and Triora during the daytime. You can catch it outside San Remo and Arma di Taggia railway stations.

Should you wish to travel by train, the high-speed TGV line across France provides an excellent service.

If you are taking a TGV train to Nice, you might need to change there for a local train to the border town, MENTON, as not all trains are direct to SAN REMO, Italy. At MENTON you must change for a local train to either SAN REMO or ARMA DI TAGGIA. Taxis run from San Remo and Arma di Taggia railway stations.

If you prefer to drive, from Calais it's possible in about 13 hours. Of course a stop-over in beautiful Burgundy, en route, is recommended ... and essential!

Directions: by car - it's easy!

If the M1 or M6 is your only experience of motorways then think again! In over twenty trips back and forth along the French motorways, to and from Italy, we have encountered no traffic jams! That's about 35,000 miles without delays!

You can drive comfortably from England to Triora. A car-train via Eurotunnel or one of the ferry services, like Norfolk Line, followed by 7 hours driving through northern and middle France will bring you to Burgundy. The towns of Beaune or Tournus are ideal half-way stops between Calais and Triora. They offer lots of good value hotels, and you'll usually feast on the best of French cooking in either town.

It's a shorter drive on day two. You will be in Nice after about 5 hours and you'll see Triora 90 minutes later.

Parking is free in Triora.

DIRECTIONS:

DAY 1: from CALAIS: initially follow the BLUE signs for PARIS. After about 40 miles follow BLUE signs for REIMS. At REIMS follow BLUE signs for DIJON or LYON. This will take you most of the way on day 1. You will pass by Champagne and the very beautiful medieval town of Troyes.  After DIJON follow signs for LYON. Stop in BEAUNE or TOURNUS (just before MACON).

DAY 2: from Beaune or Tournus: follow signs for LYON for about 1 hour until you see a sign for MARSEILLES. From this point follow signs for MARSEILLES (A46 / A346) not LYON (and NOT the A6). You will now be taken around the car-full city of Lyon, on an hour-long ring road, the A46/A346. It rejoins the A6 south of Lyon. Follow BLUE signs for MARSEILLES for about 2½ hours until you see BLUE signs for NICE. Follow the BLUE signs for NICE, via AIX, for about 2½ hours. After NICE follow BLUE signs for MONACO, for MENTON, then BLUE signs for GENES (Genes is French for Genoa/Genova). Stay on this road into Italy. It changes name and number but is essentially the same road. Stay on the Italian motorway following signs to GENOVA for about 20 minutes then turn off the motorway for ARMA DI TAGGIA (TRIORA is mentioned on one sign just before this junction).

Directions to TRIORA:

Leave the motorway carefully - it's a tight, slow bend - and follow the road downhill, towards the sea, take a right at the only mini-roundabout, and when you come to a STOP at a T-junction with a major road you are in the centre of ARMA DI TAGGIA. Turn LEFT. After 100 meters you will arrive at a large roundabout. Go STRAIGHT on. After about 100 meters take the SLIP ROAD to your right sign-posted TRIORA. You will start driving along a fast stretch of road with the river to your right. Stay on this mountain road, following signs for TRIORA. You will drive through these villages: BADALUCCO, AGAGGIO, MOLINI DI TRIORA, and you will arrive in TRIORA in a little over 40 minutes.
